Chugach Mountains in Daylight From Glenn Highway

Snow-capped jagged peaks along the northern edge of the Chugach Mountains rise above the Matanuska Valley in clean daylight from the Glenn Highway. The Chugach front here is one of the closer dramatic mountain views from a driveable road in Southcentral Alaska, and the range is what walls off the Matanuska Valley from Prince William Sound to the south. Unlike the alpenglow version of the same view, daylight shows the range honestly: clean rock, heavy glaciation, and the scale that makes driving this stretch worth it even on a bluebird afternoon.
