Inside Passage, Tongass National Forest
Snow-covered coastal mountains rise above a dense evergreen shoreline along a calm channel in Southeast Alaska, low cloud snagging on the ridges in morning light. This is classic Inside Passage country where the Coast Range and the Tongass rainforest meet saltwater, and fresh snow reaches all the way down to the upper forest line well into late spring. The region sits in one of the largest intact temperate rainforest ecosystems left in the world.
