Vertical Aurora Band With Meteors, Alaska
Interior Alaska
A tall vertical green aurora borealis band rises from snow-covered hills into a deep starry sky, with several meteor streaks visible crossing the frame. A clear winter night in Interior Alaska gives you some of the darkest skies in North America, which is part of why meteors show up so cleanly here even against a bright aurora. Photography that combines aurora, stars, and meteors usually depends on luck stacking with patience. Staying out through a long exposure set is the only way to be sitting on the shutter when the right frame lines up. Aurora borealis and meteors, Alaska. Photo © copyright by Carl Donohue.
