Bright Green Aurora Curtains Above Snowy Valley

Tall vertical curtains of green aurora borealis fall down the sky over a wide snow-covered valley in the Brooks Range. On an active night, the aurora oval can drop south and produce long, bright rays that seem to pour down toward the horizon, a look that is especially strong when you are already close to the oval latitude.

The Brooks Range sits right under the statistical auroral zone, which makes the arctic foothills of Alaska one of the more reliable spots in the world to photograph a display like this in a natural, uncluttered landscape.
