Brown Bear Running in Warm Light, Katmai River
Katmai National Park and Preserve
A brown bear runs low through a shallow river in warm evening light, water spraying from its legs as it moves. Late-day sun on the river channels of Katmai gives the water a warm glow and separates the animal cleanly from the background, one of the more rewarding light windows of the day to be out. Alaska's long summer days stretch that warm-light window out by hours compared to lower latitudes, and places like Katmai are where that stretched-out light gets put to real use.
