Snowshoe hare photo
Alaska
A snowshoe hare in Denali National Park, Alaska. Snowshoe hares are named for their rather (relatively) large feet - all the better to help them travel over snow. The snowshoe hare is also called the varying hare, because they change coats in the winter to a white pelage in the winter, though the hairs are dark at the base. The tips of the ears stay dark year round. Snowshoe hare, Denali National Park, Alaska. (Lepus americanus) Photo © copyright by Carl Donohue.
