A male Willow Ptarmigan, the Alaska State Bird, in spring plumage, Resurrection Trail, Chugach National Forest, Chugach Mountains, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska.
The male Willow Ptarmigan is a striking bird native to Alaska, with a distinctive white and brown mottled plumage. With a diet consisting mainly of plants and berries, the Willow Ptarmigan is a common sight in the Alaskan wilderness.
