A male Harlequin duck standing on a rock in Brooks River, Katmai National Park and Preserve, Alaska. The Harlequin Duck is one of the most spectacular species of waterfowl in North America. Males display a striking plumage. Although they do visit interior landscapes they breed mainly along whitewater rivers and winter on rocky windswept coasts. Photo © copyright by Carl Donohue.
