Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh
A golden jackal (Canis aureus) walks through tall dry grass in profile inside Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. Golden jackals are common throughout central India and they share the dry deciduous forests of Bandhavgarh with tigers, leopards, dholes, and a long list of other predators. They are opportunistic feeders, working a mix of small mammals, birds, insects, fruit, and scavenged kills.
Bandhavgarh National Park, in Madhya Pradesh, is one of the better known reserves in India for wildlife density. Most visitors come for the tigers, but the park holds a much broader cross-section of Indian wildlife than the tiger reputation alone would suggest.
