Female willow Ptarmigan, Lagopus lagopus Alaska

The willow Ptarmigan is Alaska's state bird, and very common throughout much of the state.

This female is changing from summer to winter plumage. Willow Ptarmigan, Skolai Pass, Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve, Alaska.
