In the southern reaches of Chile, the expansive tundra near Torres del Paine is home to one of Patagonia’s most iconic predators—the puma. This female, a mother to two cubs, stalks the open landscape with purpose, her motion a blend of quiet calculation and muscular control.
With keen eyesight and a low profile, she scans the horizon, searching for guanaco or hares, key food sources in this vast ecosystem. Her role as both provider and protector makes each hunt a critical task.
Pumas in Patagonia face not only the challenges of finding prey, but also harsh weather, territorial competition, and the demands of raising young. This image speaks to the quiet determination of a mother whose survival—and that of her cubs—depends on her skill and timing.
