A downy woodpecker clings to a tree trunk in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, its small form well-camouflaged against the snowy background.

These birds are known for their unique drumming sound, which they use to communicate and attract mates.

Despite the cold, this downy woodpecker seems undaunted, its sharp eyes focused on the task at hand as it searches for insects hidden within the bark.
