A brown bear crashes through shallow river water, throwing up a big wave of spray as it chases a salmon. Watching an adult bear hit a channel like this at speed gives you a real sense of the power available to the animal. Even a near miss looks spectacular in the frame. The salmon runs through Katmai's river system support the highest density of coastal brown bears in North America, and moments like this are why photographers and visitors keep returning year after year.
