Mt St. Elias Photos

A portfolio of stock photos of Mt. St. Elias. See my stock photo section of the website for a complete array of Wrangell – St. Elias National Park and Preserve photos.

Mt. St. Elias claims the unique mantle of being the 2nd highest mountain in 2 separate countries. Sitting on the US/Canada border, the peak of Mt. St. Elias sits in both Wrangell – St. Elias National Park and Preserve, Alaska and neighboring Kluane National Park in the Yukon.

Mt. St. Elias stands 18 008′ high, or 5 849 meters above sea level. It has some of the greatest vertical relief of any mountain in the world, and is part of the St. Elias Range, the world’s highest coastal mountain range. Mt. St. Elias rises a mere 10 miles from the ocean, at Icy Bay.

Despite being such a grand mountain, Mt. St. Elias is rarely climbed; weather is always a major issue on the mountain, so close to the Pacific Ocean, and, unlike many more popular climbs, Mt. St. Elias has no easy route to the peak.
