This wildlife photos gallery is twenty-some years of work, mostly shot in Alaska where I live and guide, with smaller bodies of work from Patagonia and the lower 48. The galleries below are split by species so you can go straight to the wildlife photos you're after. Moose, caribou, dall sheep, fox, harbor seals, and bison are the Alaska regulars. Bighorn sheep, elk, whitetail deer, and coyote came out of work in the Rockies and the high plains. Pumas and guanacos came out of seasons in Patagonia. The Baby Animal Photos gallery pulls favorites from across all of it.
Wildlife photography is mostly waiting. You sit. You watch. The interesting moments are short and don't show up on the schedule you had in mind. A coyote yawns. A whitetail buck steps out of the trees for fifteen seconds. A caribou bull crosses a ridge against a lit-up storm sky. The job is being in the right place with the right gear when those moments happen. Most of the time, they don't, and you go home with nothing usable.
Most of the wildlife photos in these galleries took a long time to get. Some came out of multi-day backcountry trips, sometimes solo, sometimes with EA crews. Others took years of repeat visits to the same area before something worked. A few came from a single morning where light, animal, and background all lined up at once.
