Name that tree

A birch tree trunk in wintertime, with snow, Wrangell - St. Elias National Park, Alaska.

Hey Folks,

A simple abstract of a tree trunk and branch, with a little snow. So, what kinda tree is this? :)

Cheers

Hey Carl- I like trivia like this, even if I get it wrong! I think i’ts a birch tree. Well, did I make an A or an F ? Ha! Ha! Maybe a Sapling. So What’s up? Where in Alaska is Carl Donohue???? Hey, do some more of that trivia! I like it. We can learn a lot. So punish me & give me my grade. Have a safe & great day!!

  2. Beth Lunsford says:

DUH!! Not a Sapling!! Haven’t had my coffee yet. I say a Birch or a spruce. It looks big enough that some nut would climb if he ran from a bear. But it would probably bat him out of the tree anyway! Ciao!!

  3. That is cool, simple, graphic composition – I like it!

I was going to guess Joshua Tree, but I might have desert on the brain.

  4. Mark says:

I suck at tree ID, but if I had to guess, some version of a beech. No matter, you probably already chopped it down to feed your growing fortress. ;-)

  5. Beth Lunsford says:

Hey Ron!!What’s up? I think that may be it is something to do with the desert. Or maybe a movie. Can I really call you anything? I promise , It’ll be nice. Hey Mark, I suck at tree I.D. also. But you are probably right, looks like good firewood, or maybe an extra door. That’s it, it’s a DON’T AXE ME CARL TREE!!

  6. Hey Beth, it is all good here! You can call me anything. I don’t know if Joshua Tree was a movie – but it was a U2 album – do they still call them albums?

  7. Guy says:

The deceptive black cottonwood. I’d like to name it “Balthazar”.

    Guy

  8. Beth Lunsford says:

Hey Ron, that was an album! How soon I forget. Come to think of it, I think Guy DOES have it right. But I always thought cottonwoods were smaller than that. If Carl doesn’t hurry up & reappear it may morph into Bono!! Hope everyone is having a great time, wherever they are!!

  9. Carl Donohue says:

    Hey Folks,

    I say it’s not a birch.

I do like “Balthazar”, is that Latin?

Mark, don’t tempt me – I heard it’s still in the minus 35 range in McCarthy, and firewood becomes a premium at that temperature. I think the fortress is done for now .. just have to put in the pool, and it’ll be complete.

    :)

    Cheers

I don’t know I’m thinking Balsam poplar myself, doesn’t look very birch like to me but without a view of the buds I suppose it could be…..of course they all work the same for my purposes.

  11. Michelle says:

It looks like a Poplar tree to me. Not going to name a specific strain but being in the Northern Canadian Boreal forest all my life tells me Poplar!

  12. Carl Donohue says:

    Hey Folks,

It may be a poplar, I wasn’t sure. Maybe so .. thanks for your help. I saw it again today. Looks like a tree, as best I can tell. :)

    Cheers

    Carl

  13. Guy says:

In case I didn’t say it loud enough: BLACK COTTONWOOD, which is another name for Western Balsam Poplar (Populus trichocarpa), though I still prefer Balthazar :)

    Guy
