Wrangell - St. Elias tourist photos: A hiker and tourist looks toward Mt. Sanford, one of the highest peaks in the Wrangell Mountains, and in all the US. Mt. Sanford, a shield volcano, stands 16,237 ft (4,949 m) high and is the 3rd highest volcano in the United States. Well known adventurer, mountaineer and photographer Bradford Washburn was the first person, along with climbing partner Terris Moore, to climb Mt. Sanford. The view across this small kettle pond to Mt. Sanford is a popular spot for tourists to get a great viewpoint of this scene.
